The Ford Explorer slots in as a bold three-row SUV that manages eight trims, three engine options, and a long list of tech and comfort features. The Ford Explorer makes for an excellent family cruiser or solo adventure vehicle thanks to its roomy interior and ample ground clearance. Regardless of the trim selected, you can look forward to a well-rounded array of features to enjoy. The full Ford Explorer trim lineup consists of the base, XLT, Limited, ST-Line, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum.
The Explorer offers up a hybrid engine, a V6 engine, and a standard 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine. The base 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine boasts 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque while making rear-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional. The Explorer makes the Hybrid engine available with the Limited and Platinum trims. The 3.3-liter V6 hybrid engine makes 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque while also offering a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The most powerful engine available with the Ford Explorer is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. All engine configurations pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It's also worth noting that the Ford Explorer Timberline is an off-road-oriented trim level. The Timberline comes standard with all-wheel drive, a specialized suspension with increased ride height, all-terrain tires, limited slip differential, underbody skidplates, front tow hooks, and revised bumpers and grille.
Staying comfy while on the go can be a breeze thanks to a wide variety of interior comfort and convenience features. Standard features that come with the Base trim include tri-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, a power adjustable driver's seat, split/folding rear seats, and a spacious rear cargo storage area. The XLT takes things further by adding a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, a power adjustable driver's seat, and second-row captain's chairs. The ST-Line includes faux leather upholstery, black interior trim, and increased driver assistance features. While the Timberline trim is first and foremost an off-road version of the Explorer, it also comes with some interior upgrades. The Timberline gets faux leather upholstery while the Limited trim comes with ambient interior lighting, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and power folding second row seats. The ST trim gets sport front seats while the King Ranch offers up wood interior trim, distinct leather upholstery, and front seats with massaging functionality. The top-level Platinum trim touts all the features that the King Ranch includes while also adding in extended leather upholstery.
One of the standout features with the Ford Explorer is its standard suite of driver assistance features. The Base trim of the Ford Explorer comes with all sorts of driver assistance features to help boost driving confidence. The Base trim comes with frontal collision mitigation, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, lane keeping assist, and trailer sway control. Other notable standard exterior features include LED headlights and a power liftgate. The XLT trim makes some improvements, adding in roof rails. The ST-Line touts 20-inch wheels, a black grille, and tinted headlights/taillights. The Timberline comes with a host of unique performance features. Other notable exterior features can be had with the Platinum trim, which gains adaptive headlights, 21-inch wheels, and an automated parking system.
Tech features are about what you'd expect with a modern SUV option from Ford. The Ford Explorer makes it easy to stay connected while on the go thanks to standard offerings like a touchscreen infotainment display, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 6-speaker audio system. When you step to any of the trim levels beyond the base, you can expect increased tech features. The XLT comes with second-row USB ports while the ST-Line trim gains a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, wireless charging, and a navigation system. The King Ranch boasts a 14-pseaker B&O audio system, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and a digital gauge cluster.
